This minute covers the news release from CMS concerning, Medicare Billing for COVID-19 Vaccine Shot Administration.
Hello, Everyone and Welcome to our Monday Minute. Today I want to share with you some exciting news, effective June 8, 2021. CMS has approved that the COVID vaccination administration payment is now going to be $75 per shot, which is almost double what they had increased it to earlier this year. The emphasis on getting as many people vaccinated as we possibly can is apparent. They are now increasing that, again to $75, which will equal $150 if it is the two dose vaccinations. We have had a Monday Minute recently about the specifics behind billing for the COVID-19 vaccination and we are going to include links to the billing instructions in the content of this Monday Minute. I do want to make sure you are clear that if your patient is a Medicare Advantage patient, you should be billing the COVID-19 vaccination to Traditional Medicare. You will need to ensure that you use the Traditional Medicare ID for the patient, the MBI number, not their Medicare Advantage number. You also will have to include condition code 78, which basically identifies this COVID vaccination as a service that the Medicare Advantage plan does not pay for. Without that combination, using the MBI plus using the 78-condition code, you will not get paid for those Medicare Advantage patients.
