Cannon is co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of Healthcare Provider Solutions, Inc. (HPS). Melinda Gaboury and Mark Cannon founded the company in April 2001 to provide financial, reimbursement, clinical and cost reporting services to the home health, hospice and rehabilitation therapy industries.
Cannon attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with honors and majored in Accounting. He began his career with a large local accounting firm in Nashville, Tennessee where he began as a staff accountant and eventually obtained the title of Vice President over the Audit Division. Cannon successfully completed the CPA exam and obtained the Certified Public Accountant designation in February 1989. He spent thirteen years with the firm and concentrated on corporate audit and tax services for many different industries.
After leaving public accounting, Cannon joined a national healthcare consulting firm as their controller and was shortly promoted to Chief Financial Officer. His duties included oversight of all internal accounting staff, medical billing staff and financial and reimbursement consultants. In his three-year tenure, he assisted in the formation of two new companies – a home health agency and a private duty company. During two and a half years of his three years with this consulting firm, Cannon spent approximately half of his time managing the accounting and medical billing staff of a large hospital based home health, hospice, infusion therapy and durable medical equipment company.
At HPS, Cannon performs operational and billing process reviews, provides oversight to the receivable recovery project staff and provides interim revenue cycle management services. Cannon has over four years of experience managing revenue cycle departments for multi-state, multi-location home health and hospice agencies that ranged from a revenue cycle staff of 15 up to 130. All of these clients utilized multiple receivable systems and had challenges due to significant growth in volume.
Cannon has first hand experience in the following key areas:
- Management of a Home Health Revenue Cycle Department
- Management of a Hospice Revenue Cycle Department
- Accounts Receivable and Collection Analysis
- Revenue Enhancement and Cost Reduction Analysis
- Prospective Payment System Revenue Recognition Models
- Staffing and Operational Analysis
- Revenue Cycle Department Process Reviews
- Evaluation of Home Care & Hospice Billing/EMR Systems
- Due Diligence Procedures/Transition of Home Health Agencies to New Owners
Cannon is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Tennessee Society of CPA’s (TSCPA). His forty hours of annual professional education is routinely obtained by attending Home Health and Hospice Conferences and Healthcare Financial Management Conferences.
