A draft of the new OASIS-E1, which can be viewed by clicking here, has been released. This revised version is set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
As you may be aware, it was recently finalized in the Home Health Final Rule that specific items would be permanently eliminated from the OASIS. This includes the removal of “M0110 Episode Timing” and “M2200 Therapy Need”. Additionally, discharge goals from GG0130 and GG0170 will be removed from both the Start of Care and Resumption of Care OASIS.
In the upcoming OASIS-E1, a new addition will be made to Section O, specifically related to COVID-19 vaccine information and inquiries. This item will be utilized in the Value-Based Purchasing measure regarding the current status of a patient’s COVID-19 vaccine.
In the new draft of the OASIS-E1, updates have been made to the language of certain items, including M2420, Discharge Disposition. The current language stating “Formal Assisted Services”, will be modified to specifically say “skilled services from a Medicare Certified HHA.” Although the instructions clarified this change, it still caused confusion for some. Therefore, the language will be specifically changed to alleviate any misunderstandings.
Additionally, there will be more specific instructions provided for D0150, Patient Mood Interview, compared to previous instructions.
The new manual content for the OASIS-E1 update has not been released yet. In the time leading up to the release of the manual, there may be further clarifications regarding instructions or language used in OASIS-E1. Healthcare Provider Solutions will be offering detailed and comprehensive OASIS-E1 education in the coming months, with a focus on GG items.
We’ve previously mentioned the Value-Based Purchasing Model major update that is scheduled to commence on January 1, 2025. The model will include changes regarding the M1800 items in the ADL section. These items will no longer be applicable to the Value-Based Purchasing measures and will be replaced entirely by items GG0130 and GG0170.
We have raised concerns about the inadequate GG education provided in numerous agencies. Our aim is to support agencies in offering more comprehensive education that will be required for their field and QA staff.
