Medicare Advantage: Show Me the Money! | August 1, 2023 | 1:30pm – 2:50pm | Melinda A. Gaboury, CEO

With enrollment doubling in the past few years, Medicare Advantage is becoming the coverage of choice for Medicare-eligible people. Because of this growth, working with Medicare Advantage has become an integral part of home health care. This session aims to provide participants with strategies for overcoming common problems agencies face when working with Medicare Advantage plans, such as missing authorization deadlines, clean claims denials, billing and payment requirements, and reading, negotiating, and enforcing contractual terms with payers. As part of this course, participants will be taught how to measure their agency’s success or failure in serving Medicare Advantage patients.

The Power of the PEPPER Data That is Driving Medicare Audits | August 2, 2023 | 9:00am – 10:20am | Melinda A. Gaboury, CEO

Is your agency a box office hit or a flop? The purpose of this session is to examine each of the Program for Evaluating Payment Patterns Electronic Report (PEPPER) targets and discuss how to evaluate your agency’s success using key data. For providers to improve their PEPPER scores, they must understand how the data is analyzed and consider best practices to avoid medical review audits.

Avoiding the Blooper Reel: How to Produce Award-Winning Therapy Documentation | August 2, 2023 | 9:00am – 10:20am | Beulah Scott, Clinical Consultant

Medical necessity audits can be time-consuming, expensive, and frustrating for providers. We examine the expectations of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding effective documentation as well as the most common reasons for claim denials in this session. Skilled services are frequently denied due to insufficient documentation supporting their medical necessity. The purpose of this session is to teach participants how to document effectively and accurately, to identify reasonable criteria for skilled therapy services, and to develop and write functional-based goals. Additionally, the speaker will review the regulatory requirements for medical necessity, common mistakes, and how to skillfully paint a picture of their current functional abilities. This session is intended for occupational, physical, and speech therapists, quality improvement personnel, and administrators/managers responsible for the agency’s success.
