The Hospice Provider Preview Reports were released in the middle of August 2023 for the Hospice Quality Reporting Program. Therefore, it is important to note that by the middle of September, you will need to thoroughly examine these reports and promptly report any discrepancies, if identified. These preview reports will be accessible for a total of 60-days for your comprehensive review. However, it is essential to keep in mind that you only have a 30-day window to address any concerns or issues related to the content.

In addition to the announcement of the preview reports, the CMS also unveiled the 3rd edition of the Post-Public Health Emergency Review of the Hospice Quality Reporting Program reports. This update aims to establish the timeframe and criteria for calculating outcome measures. The refresh to the Care Compare site will be made available in November 2023, this will include two years’ worth of Hospice CAHPS Survey data (2021 and 2022). Additionally, the claims data will be refreshed for the first time since August 2022, encompassing data from 2021 and 2022. Lastly, the HIS data will consist of a complete set of 2022 data.

It is very important that you thoroughly examine these reports and comprehend the potential impact of publicly reported data on your organization. Furthermore, it is crucial to note that the Hospice Quality Reporting program mandates the transmission of 90% of your HIS within 30-days of its completion. This requirement applies to both the Start of Care and Discharge assessments. The completion dates for each of these assessments will serve as the starting point for the 30-day timeframe, during which the HIS must not only be transmitted, but also successfully accepted into the database.

The Timeliness Compliance Report for HIS within the CASPER reports provides an up-to-date assessment of your organization’s compliance with the 90% transmission requirement. It is crucial for someone within your organization to review this report and ensure that you are on track to meet the compliance requirement in 2023. Failing to meet this requirement could have a significant impact on your payments in 2025, with a potential reduction of 4% in each payment received during that year. It is essential to stay vigilant and address any compliance issues promptly.

It is crucial to ensure compliance with the CAHPS Hospice survey when it is required. This entails adhering to the survey protocols and making timely submissions. Additionally, it is important to meet the 90% requirement for HIS transmission.
